On August 14th, in the late afternoon, Qarmeed Brick Factory, a map of which can be found here, the site of a two month long rebel siege, was struck by a BMP VBIED. The video of the BMP VBIED can be seen here; it clearly shows a large explosion towards the perimeter of the base. Here are three different angles of the explosion. It appears that the VBIED struck an ammo dump, according to online activist, Yalla Souria.
After the BMP VBIED the rebels began a large assault involving mobile artillery, BMPs, a tank, anti-tank weaponry and infantry. Here is a video of the mobile artillery - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=effyjFc44Ko&feature=youtu.be. This video claims to show a hell cannon hitting the base. This video shows a rebel BMP attacking the base. This video shows the rebels attacking the base with a recoilless rifle.
Fascinatingly, it appears after midnight that the rebels again struck the encampment with a bulldozer VBIED. The picture of the incident is featured below:
So what can be said?
The rebels have issued a statement saying the Brick Factory ‘has not been liberated’, however it appears that a major assault is currently underway. The statement read:
‘Rebel factions operating in the Idlib countryside which are currently in charge of the offensive launched earlier today to liberate the Brick Factory have issued a joint statement denying reports that claimed that the factory has fell as “false” and only aiming to get “a scoop”‘.
Any reports claiming that the base has fallen are premature, but it is very evident that the base is under major assault.
I will update as more information is released.
